OBSTACLE COURSE RACING

Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) is an action-packed sport that blends running with a series of exciting physical challenges. From parks and mountain resorts to wilderness trails and city courses, OCR events take place in some of the most inspiring locations around the globe. Distances range from explosive 80m or 100 m sprints to 5 km crowd favourites, right through to 21 km endurance races and ultras beyond 50 kms.

With more than 2,500 events worldwide — including fan-favourite brands like  True Grit, Toughest, Spartan Race, Tough Mudder and Strong Viking — the sport offers something for every athlete. Whether you’re chasing a podium or just looking for an epic day out, there’s a course for you.

OCR is all about pushing boundaries. With walls to scale, carries to conquer and mud to battle through, it’s the perfect way to challenge your body, sharpen your mind and prove what you’re capable of.

Obstacle Course Racing has its routes in military obstacle training, which has held a military obstacle run world championship annually since 1950.

The Tough Guy Competition in the United Kingdom (run annually since 1987) and survival Run that started in Holland around the same time were early versions of modern day OCR.

Sprint Adventure Races with man made obstacles were prolific in the United States from 1997 to 2010 and progressively eliminated the navigation, bikes, boats, and other equipment to make the events cheaper and more accessible. By 2010 Warrior Dash, Tough Mudder and Spartan Race became the dominant event brand in what is know known as OCR.
